Ways you can help
Set Up
This job requires you to arrive early to clear the pool deck of tables and chairs, set up the Clerk of Course area, and assist the coaches with setting up lane lines and backstroke flags. This job is a lot of physical labor.
Concessions
Help us sell food & drinks at the concession stand to our hungry athletes and meet attendees.
Timers
Want the best view of the races? Timers are assigned a lane and time the swimmers in their lane using stopwatches. They will record the times on a card, and give them to the Runner. The Head Timer is a backup for the other timers. There will be a timers meeting before the meet with the officials. This job will have you on your feet for most of the meet.
Announcer
Loud people are welcome! You will announce the races during the meets, and when swimmers should report to the Clerk of Course. You will be given a copy of the lineup and armed with a microphone…feel free to slip in some family-friendly jokes.
Runners
Collect the cards from the Timers and Official after each race, and take them to the Scorers. There will be a runners meeting before the meet with the officials. This job requires a lot of walking back and forth.
Lane Marshal
Needed for the Relay and Championship meets. You will observe warm-up lanes to ensure swimmers are following proper warm-up procedures: including feet first entry only and staying on the correct side of the lane to accommodate 2-way swimming.
Scorers
Good with math? Scorers average the times on the cards given to them by the Runners then give them to the Computer person. This job is performed sitting down.
Clerk of Course
Oversees the Clerk of Course area where swimmers report before their event. Help line up swimmers in order and ensure they report to their lanes in an orderly and timely fashion. You'll work with the Announcer to call the events so swimmers report to the Clerk of Course with adequate time before events. This job will have you on your feet most of the meet.
Clean Up
Put tables and chairs back on the pool deck, assist coaches with removing the lane lines and backstroke flags, and do general cleanup to ensure the pool and surrounding area look like we were never there. This job is a lot of physical labor.
Awards
Do you like stickers? This job requires you to stick labels on the award ribbons. This job will start halfway through the meet, and may require you to stay a little after the meet ends. This job is performed sitting down.
